Welcome to Chuck Nuggetts,
Bringing you links, news, tours and reviews of the best in Indie music.
The best Indie albums, songs and artists from Australia and the world.
Chuck Nuggetts was established to promote the music I love to listen to. Chuck Nuggetts celebrates all genres of Indie music – Indie Rock, Indie Folk, Indie Pop, Electronica, Experimental, Industrial, Post Rock, World Fusion, Americana* and anything else that sounds weird.
When and where possible, Chuck Nuggetts will promote Australian Indie artists.
These ears have loved music for over 40 years and for the last fifteen or so they have broadcast strange and wonderful music to the ears of the Manning Valley in Australia through 2BOB Radio. (see below)
And here's a link to the BEST community radio station in the WORLD:
Obviously, the Tours info is for Australian (and some times New Zealand) Gigs.
This is what you will not find on Chuck Nuggetts;
Top 40, RnB, MOR rock/pop/whatever, hip hop, reggae or country. These are genres that I just don't like, for various and undoubtedly quite uninteresting reasons. This point however, brings me to the *; Upon the rock of good taste that is Chuck's Nuggetts, Americana is defined as music that may have country elements in its roots, but leaves them safely there, embedded under more artistically justifiable influences such as folk, roots, funk, rock or even mariachi! I feel VERY strongly on this issue and rest assured this is not the last you will read on it.
To give you a roadmap, the following bands are defined as Americana. Andrew Bird, Calexico, The Civil Wars (early), The Decemberists (one album so far (and that's being kind), First Aid Kit (1st album), The Gaslight Anthem, The Head and the Heart, The Hold Steady, Horse Feathers, Iron & Wine, Kurt Vile (some), The Menzingers, Neil Young, Neko Case, Fleet Foxes, Neutral Milk Hotel, Son Volt, The Tallest Man on Earth, Espers, Emily Jane White, Noah Georgeson, Joanna Newsom, Devendra Banhart, The Antlers, The Acorn, The Smoke Fairies (1st album), Wilco, Husky and I'm sure others that i just can't bring to mind.
I also have a flexible and unique take on what is and is not "Indie".
Best to think of this as an opinion piece (or series of them, as it is near certain that similar theories/ideas/rants may inadvertently pop out in future posts). If you were looking for objective reviews or comments, you will be sadly disappointed. Chuck calls it as the ears hear it.
Let me know if you think there is an artist I should be taking notice of via the contact page.
I present several shows broadcast from 2BOB Radio 104.7FM Taree in the Manning Valley of New South Wales Australia.
You can stream 'live' here.
On Tuesday nights 7pm - 9pm I present The Other Window, featuring Electronica, Post Rock, Experimental, Ambient, Industrial, Freak Folk, Americana and Avant-Garde.
Tuesday & every second Friday 5pm - 7pm I present the Drive'n'Home show presenting Indie music based shows.
On Friday nights from 8pm - 10pm I present the Indie Nuggetts show focusing on Indie Rock Pop and Folk with a healthy 50% Aussie content.
These links take you to my playlists, which are updated usually as I broadcast and are searchable.
MP3 / Music Policy
Only legal downloads will be posted – if you are an artist / label / rep / whatever, please send links from your own sites for me to link to.
Personally I have discovered great bands by downloading legal mp3's posted on blogs or by the artist / label on their websites. Bands I would otherwise have ignored and not followed up on.
Legal mp3 downloads are a win for the artist, label AND the fans.
Please provide a link to a cloud based download, or preferably:
Chuck’s preference is for hardcopy! (that’s right folks, Chuck is a cd fetishist, I like the feel of a cd, the sometimes dodgy cases, the liner notes, the artwork on the cover – all these things should always be a part of the release of music)
