CIVIL CIVIC Play Melbourne & Sydney This Week

CIVIL CIVIC Play Melbourne & Sydney This Week

civil civic

Described as “Ear shattering genius” by NME and “Like being caught in the eye of an adrenalin storm” by Mixmag, CIVIL CIVIC have been frightening and motivating European audiences with their unique brand of euphorically melodic post-punk scuzz since forming there in 2009.

Since The Drones selected them for the All Tomorrows Party in Melbourne, 2012, Civil Civic (originally from Melbourne) have not set foot on native soil, so expect some real electricity from their already notorious live shows.

Despite working relentlessly on album no.2, (the follow up to the highly praised debut LP RULES) CIVIL CIVIC are making space for some select club shows in Australia this December.

Don’t miss this chance to catch one of Europe’s hottest festival acts in a small club environment.

JEREMY NEALE NEW SINGLE ‘THE NEWS’ SIGNS TO DOT DASH / REMOTE CONTROL

JEREMY NEALE NEW SINGLE ‘THE NEWS’ SIGNS TO DOT DASH / REMOTE CONTROL

jeremy neale

Last time we saw Jeremy he was living his 60s revivalist dreams but that was a year ago, man. Times have changed and he’s changed with them. Or maybe he’s changed and it’s time for the times to change with him.

Since the November 2013 release of his debut EP In Stranger Times, Jeremy has taken touring to the max. He teamed up with The John Steel Singers to take the EP on a victory lap in February before heading over to the UK to play Liverpool Sound City and The Great Escape. He also visited Singapore for the Music Matters festival and most recently toured with the Blurst Of Times Festival in October. Between all this he also recorded, released and toured an album with Brisbane garage collective Velociraptor and released a 7” with melodic surf band Teen Sensations.

During this time he learnt a lot about life, about love, about priorities and his own dreams and probably along the way some stuff about songwriting, which brings us to The News. Recorded with Sydney producer Tony Buchen at Studios 301, mastered by Leon Zervos and featuring the backing vocal talent of Roxane LeBrasse, The News walks into territory Jeremy has always been comfortable writing but couldn’t find the space to release until now. A synth heavy journey through those wonderful moments in life when somebody you love says “We need to talk” and then proceeds to drop the most devastating news of all time.

Never fear though, despite the emotional pain it’s still incredibly danceable. Plus, check the fill at 2:58. Phil Collins is a proud father to Lily Collins and now this drum break. So Against All Odds this Father’s Day could be the best one yet so put your hands In The Air Tonight and whatever you do, Don’t Lose My Number if Something Happens On The Way To Heaven…Hmm.

Note: Jeremy Neale ain’t afraid of no tour. See you in February, Australia!

COLLARBONES NEW ALBUM RETURN OUT NOW

COLLARBONES NEW ALBUM RETURN OUT NOW

Collarbones third album Return is out now worldwide by Two Bright Lakes / Remote Control Records.

collarbones Collarbones’ Travis Cook and Marcus Whale met in 2007. With Cook in Adelaide and Whale in Sydney, the duo have not let distance stop them and have since co-written and produced three full-length albums together, beginning with their brilliant debut album Iconography and second album Die Young in 2012. Since then, Collarbones have performed collaboratively with Synergy Percussion at Vivid Sydney and released a mix tape Atlantis 2014 that featured the single ‘Burnout’. The duo have pushed boundaries with their dense, compelling live show – supporting Jessie Ware, Deerhunter, How To Dress Well and a string of local collaborators and friends including Rainbow Chan, Guerre, Oscar Key Sung & Martin King.

Return is an album of 9 songs that documents the erratic mood swings which come after a break up and the narcissism that follows. It deals with the fantasies surrounding love, and hones in on harsh realities. Collarbones have often played with the idea of genre and this album sees the collaborative band delving in many directions, in order to find their own path. The sincere and compelling sound of Return bridges the Teen Idol meditations found on earlier albums and solidifies Collarbones as a true gift to listeners.

Return is available now to stream and on digital. Pre-order vinyl for late December delivery.

Collarbones’ Return is out now via Two Bright Lakes / Remote Control Records.

“…their long-awaited return to the stage, better than ever. These songs, new and old, have a power, undiminished neither by absence nor nascence. Any quantifiable success, past or future, is arbitrary. Augie March are important, plain and simple. It’s very good to have them back.”
FASTER LOUDER (HOWLER)
In June 2014, one of Australia’s finest and most-loved bands Augie March announced their return from a six-year hiatus. This very welcome news was swiftly followed by the announcement that the band had quietly been creating a fifth studio album, Havens Dumb, in Hobart and Melbourne over the preceding three years. The band’s return to the live stage came in the form of playing at Howler, a few streets away from the scene of their first-ever show sixteen years earlier, in Brunswick Victoria. They ended up doing five nights in a row by popular demand. It was indeed a triumphant return, with the band in best-ever form, playing better than ever, and enjoying themselves for the first time in a long time.

Fans around the country and indeed the world have been hoping the band would decide to play some more shows and it is with the greatest pleasure that Augie March announce a national tour in some of the finest performances spaces the nation has to offer, from the Meredith Supernatural Amphitheatre to Hobart’s Mona to the Sydney Opera House, Melbourne Recital Centre, Her Majesty’s Theatre Adelaide and the Astor Theatre in Perth. They also play Brisbane’s great new live space The Triffid, the Ulumbarra Theatre in Bendigo and Tanks Art Centre in Cairns. Augie March – Glenn Richards, Kiernan Box, Edmondo Ammendola, Adam Donovan and Dave Williams, plus a horn section – will play these special concerts featuring songs from throughout their 17-year career.

King Gizzard are heading home to embark on their I’M IN YOUR MIND FUZZ AUSTRALIAN TOUR and they are excited to be starting that run with a now completely SOLD OUT show at Howler in Melbourne. In addition to the previously announced shows, the band have just announced a special end of year freakout at the HiFi Bar on Friday 19th December with Tonstartssbandht (USA) + Leah Senior + mystery special guest to be announced on December 7th.

2014 has been a HUGE year for our mates King Gizard & The Lizard Wizard.  “You have as many days in a year as King Gizzard” is our new mantra. In their 365 days, the band managed to release their first album of the year – Oddments in March. The lead single from Oddments ‘Hot Wax’ received a Triple J award nomination for Best Music Video. The band completed a 17 date national tour including Golden Plains in support of Oddments & then headed off on their first USA/Canadian trip which saw them performing at Austin Psych Fest, playing shows across North America and a 6 week residency at Baby’s All Right in Brooklyn. Their Baby’s Alright Shows were such a hit that the owner opened the club late once a week for six weeks allowing the band to play at 2am after whatever was already scheduled.

After their USA debut they came home for a 14 date Sino-Aus tour that included a performance in Beijing in between sold out Australian shows. including Wave Rock Weekender and BIGSOUND.

The band returned to the USA for their second tour in October and did 17 shows in 15 days with White Fence, performed at CMJ, played with Mac De Marco and Connan Mockasin. King Gizz then continued their breathless run of insanity by releasing album no.2 Im In Your Mind Fuzz. The album received high critical praise and was awarded Feature Album on Triple J. The album also received a J Award Nomination for Album Of The Year. Following this, the band flew to Iceland to perform at a festival & continued onto their first UK/European tour which saw them selling out shows across Europe. To cap it all off, The Gizzards were awarded Best Band at The Age Music Victoria Awards.

In closing King Gizzard would also like to let you know they are currently mixing their sixth studio album which was recorded on an off day at Daptone in Brooklyn in early November and have at least two US & European tours in the works for 2015.

KINGSWOOD Release Short Film For Micro Wars

KINGSWOOD Release Short Film For Micro Wars
kingswood

Melbourne’s favourite indie-rockers Kingswood have enlisted an all-star cast from the Australian music industry to join them in creating a cinematic short film featuring latest single from Kingswood – ‘Micro Wars’ and album track ‘Eye Of The Storm

Ian Moss, Freddy Crabs (Sticky Fingers), Sam Margin, Zac Margin, Scott Baldwin and Will Zeglis (The Rubens), Thomas Champion (The Preatures), Jake Stone (Bluejuice), Tkay Maidza and Australian actress Liana Cornell all play a role alongside the members of Kingswood in this tale of love, loss and revenge.
Watch the video for ‘Micro Wars’ HERE

The film directed by guitarist Alex Laska (Kingswood) and Jason Von Drayco captures the bands signature cinematic style seen in the earlier video for simmering slow burner ‘I Can Feel That You Don’t Love Me’.

The story of ‘Micro Wars’ is set in the dark underbelly of the Sydney underworld as the band of brothers tear up the Sydney Streets riding with the wind upon thundering motorcycles. Capulet meets Montague; our Romeo (Fergus Linacre) meets Juliet (Liana Cornell). A dramatic tale of forbidden love and tragedy ensue ending in a heroic, blood-spattered gun slinging show down between our musically talented all-star cast set to the backdrop of a derelict abandoned asylum.
“It’s sort of the second installment of our endeavours in making grind house styled cinema but with much more of an Australian twist, Animal Kingdom was a big influence…” Alex Laska

Kingswood’s debut album ‘Microscopic Wars’ has been nominated for ARIA ‘Best Rock Album’ 2014

MOSMAN ALDER Announce Tour Supports

mosman alder

Brisbane six-piece Mosman Alder have announced a swag of the best local acts to support their December “Humdrum Star” tour and dropped a new remix and behind-the-scenes video to get fans in the mood.

Taking to the stage with Mosman Alder will be: lush and melodic three-piece Noire, in Sydney; good friends and ambient rock stylists I, A Man and the swirling, howling, psych rock sounds of Little Desert, in Melbourne; The ethereal soul-drenched indie pop of singer-songwriter BANFF and dreamy shoegaze quartet Blonde Tongues in their hometown, Brisbane.

Mosman Alder recently imparted their latest single ‘Try Your Luck’ to the very capable hands of Melbourne indie legends World’s End Press who’ve reworked the track into a dream-pop anthem that wouldn’t feel out of place on an 80’s disco dancefloor.

Listen to ‘Try Your Luck (World’s End Press Remix)’ HERE

Mosman Alder hit the East Coast to perform songs from their acclaimed debut album “Humdrum Star” in what will be their first headline tour of 2014. They’ve previously toured alongside the likes of Father John Misty, The Head and the Heart, Big Scary and Besnard Lakes and played to crowds at Big Sound, Splendour in the Grass and Brisbane Festival.
