Bop English Releases ‘Dani’s Blues’ From forthcoming album “Constant Bop”

Bop English Releases ‘Dani’s Blues’ From forthcoming album “Constant Bop”

bop english

Bop English, the recording name of White Denim frontman James Petralli, has announced a debut record titled Constant Bop that will be released 17th April via Create/Control and Downtown. The first single entitled ‘Dani’s Blues’ was premiered through Gorilla Vs. Bear, who called the track “…a beautiful, sprawling, and characteristically genre-defying record.”
“Constant Bop” is the result of years of persistence and determination/ It is an album born of real studio magic; dozens of musicians contribute to its ten tracks including White Denim’s drummer Josh Block, guitarist Austin Jenkins and bass player Steve Terebecki, as well as former Shearwater bassist Kevin Schneider.

The album sees James stepping into the light as a storyteller, enriching his already vivacious and dynamic album with vignettes of tantalising characters. With an uncanny ability as a songwriter “Constant Bop” brilliantly interweaves his own experiences with those of his dreamed-up narrators.

Musically, “Constant Bop is full of disparate influences, but under the spell of James Petralli it all makes for an incredibly coherent album. From start to finish, it’s as if embarking on a journey through James’ musical history, one that bears thrilling and enthralling moments each time the road twists and turns.

2015 National Tour
Summer rock favourites the Band of Skulls have just announced Sydney’s Spookyland as their support for 2015’s intimate run of club shows. Supporting frequent touring buddies The Black Keys’ at their Rolling Green concerts as well as a sought-after performance at Bluesfest, Band of Skulls’ Melbourne and Sydney show’s will be kicked off with the local indie rockers that Pitchfork labelled ‘utterly magnetizing’.

Spookyland last year released their EP “Rock and Roll Weakling” to sweeping acclaim from international press and local tastemakers. The moody and vulnerable vocals of lead singer Marcus Gordon soar across dark bluesy rock, with an underlying textured pop sensibility, that saw the band asked to play CMJ showcases and set off on their own tour of Europe. Back home, they have recently supported the likes of Cold War Kids, Benjamin Booker and now fellow unique rockers, Band of Skulls.

Returning to Australia for the second time in a whirlwind worldwide tour for their third LP “Himalayan” Band of Skull’s performances befit a band honed by two years of constant touring, as well as a memorable performance at the Splendour In The Grass music festival – their sun-kissed melodies sweeter than ever, their riffs heavier and dirtier…Now, after a year of perfecting their latest album on the live stage, a string of high-profile shows across the UK and Europe the trio offer Australian audiences another chance to see them live.
They are ecstatically received, and encore The Devil Takes Care of His Own is a fantastically barbed and carnal grunge odyssey that packs a visceral punch.”

“An enviable confidence that will hopefully carry him far and wide as a vocalist, producer and performer…”

Dan Mangan + Blacksmith New Single ‘Mouthpiece” Album “Club Meds” Out Jan 16

Dan Mangan + Blacksmith New Single ‘Mouthpiece” Album “Club Meds” Out January 16 via Create/Control | Arts & Crafts

Dan Mangan + Blacksmith

Dan Mangan + Blacksmith recently premiered the captivating Ben Clarkson-directed animated video for ‘Vessel’ the lead single from upcoming new studio album “Club Meds” and a part of the soundtrack for Simon Pegg’s indie film Hector And The Search For Happiness.

Of ‘Mouthpiece’ Mangan says, “This song means a lot to me. It took me months and months to feel like the lyrics were “finished”. It’s a rant. It’s nearly a tirade. It’s a lot of thoughts about our collective willingness to put faith in hunches, and disregard the material evidence that is not only surrounding us currently, but available in abundance from the successes/failures of our past. It’s also about the pack mentality. The need to feel comfortable. It’s about censorship. It’s about not questioning your subordinance lest the privileges you have be taken away.”

“Club Meds” is Mangan’s first album written entirely with Blacksmith, an ensemble of Vancouver’s finest experimental musicians and long time collaborators (Gordon Grdina, Kenton Loewen, John Walsh, JP Carter, Jesse Zubot & Tyson Naylor) and recorded with producer Colin Stewart (Ladyhawke, Black Mountain), “Club Meds” features 11 songs that weave grand thematic ideas about numbness and perception into sweeping hazy arrangements, anthemic melodies and haunting atmospherics. The lyrics are sharp-eyed and piercing.
Mangan’s last release Oh Fortune (2011) earned him two JUNO Awards for New Artist of the Year and Alternative Album of the Year, along with his second Polaris Music Prize listing. SPIN praised the album’s “noisy atmospheric rumblings, raucous drums and free-flowing sax,” All Music hailed it “the most ornate thing he’s ever done,” and NPR Music detailed his “intricately arranged recordings, fleshed out with as many as 20 musicians lending a hand.”

SAN FERMIN Announce New Album “Jackrabbit” + Single ‘Parasites’

SAN FERMIN Announce New Album “Jackrabbit” + Single ‘Parasites’

san fermin

On April 17, San Fermin will release “Jackrabbit”, the follow-up to their “jarringly accomplished” (NPR) self-titled debut album. Recorded in the midst of a year of heavy touring, “Jackrabbit” blends the lush, pop-leaning elements that made ‘San Fermin’ so “infectious” (Pitchfork), with the more manic and evolved sound of an experienced eight-piece rock ensemble.

NPR Music premiered “Parasites”, the first track from “Jackrabbit”, calling the band “electrified, amplified and, above all, emboldened.” Listen here!

Bandleader Ellis Ludwig-Leone wrote “Jackrabbit” by himself from start to finish, only to find that after a year testing the songs on the road – which included shows with St. Vincent, Arctic Monkeys, a co-headlining tour with Courtney Barnett, and festival stops at Lollapalooza, Fun Fun Fun Fest, and more – the album wasn’t nearly finished. Ellis explains, “I went from being this isolated composer guy, out in the woods, to sitting in the back of a van with seven other members playing shows in rock clubs every night. When I got back, I revisited it all, ripped these holes in the middle of all the existing songs and added some new songs. I rethought everything I had been writing.”

Co-produced by Peter Katis (The National, Interpol) and Ludwig-Leone, “Jackrabbit” bears the scars of experience admirably, with the touring band on full display: Ludwig-Leone on piano/synth, Allen Tate and Charlene Kaye on vocals, John Brandon on trumpet, Stephen Chen on saxophone, Rebekah Durham on violin, Michael Hanf on drums, and Tyler McDiarmid on guitar. If their debut could seem prepared and guarded to the point of being polite, “Jackrabbit” lines that record’s complicated compositional maneuvers and grandiose pop eruptions with necessary aggression.

On February 12, San Fermin will join a prestigious list of artists ranging from Steve Reich + Stephen Sondheim to Talib Kweli in performing as part of Lincoln Center’s American Songbook series, where they’ll be accompanied by the Metropolis Ensemble in the Appel Room (formerly the Allen Room). They are also confirmed to play with the Alabama Symphony Orchestra on March 6, where Ludwig-Leone is the composer-in-residence, before headlining the Savannah Stopover Festival. San Fermin will tour extensively in 2015, more tour dates will soon be announced.

CIRCA WAVES Announce debut album “Young Chasers” New video ‘Fossils’

CIRCA WAVES Announce release of debut album “Young Chasers” + New video ‘Fossils’
circa waves

Before returning to Australian shores in January, Liverpool four-piece Circa Waves have dropped the video for their latest single ‘Fossils’ and announced their debut album Young Chasers” will be released through Dew Process / Virgin on 15 March 2015.

The video was directed by LA based Adam Powell (Jamie T, Michael Kiwanuka) and shot during the band’s recent European tour with The Libertines.  View ‘Fossils’ here http://po.st/Fossilsv

Recorded at the historic RAK studios in London in late summer 2014, the 13-track Dan Grech produced album features the band’s most recent singles Young Chaser’s and So Long’. A thrillingly immediate, intuitive and anthemic collection, the album stands as testament to lead singer Kieran Shudall’s rise to one of the best songwriters in the UK right now.

Talking about the inspirations behind the album, Kieran commented: “As a kid growing up in Liverpool you get into bands, it was always bands for me, never really individuals. You buy into ‘that band’. You believe you’re in the gang. I want anyone who listens to our music to feel that.”

“Circa Waves songs are born out of huge frustration and a twisted nostalgia. Leaving school at 16, working shitty low paid jobs, playing in bands and not even registering on anyone’s radar. Maybe never. So that’s why the album now is talking about those experiences because we feel like we have a forum to talk about that looking back. You have to represent that period before you can talk about anything else since.  We want that and our live shows to come across in the recording, you can feel us in that room smashing it out. That was never an afterthought, it was vital to us.”

Having released their debut single, Get Away, in December 2013, the album comes at the end of an amazing 18 months for the band. Bagging the prestigious opening slot on the NME Awards tour alongside Interpol, Royal Blood and Temples in February 2014, the band ended the year in November with a sold-out UK tour culminating in rapturous gigs at London’s Heaven and a hometown show at the Kazimier in Liverpool.

Circa Waves visited Australia earlier this year for Splendour In The Grass and joined Metronomy for their national sideshows and return to Australia in January for a six-show national tour with UK outfit The 1975.

Doolittle 25 by Pixies, New Album Out Now‏

Doolittle 25 by Pixies, New Album Out Now‏

The week commencing 1st December, Pixies and 4AD will celebrate the 25th anniversary of Doolittle with the release of Pixies: Doolittle 25 – an expanded edition of the classic album that brings together all the album’s B-sides, Peel Sessions and demos for the first time, with nearly half of the tracks having not been commercially released before.

The second studio album from Pixies – Black Francis, Joey Santiago, Kim Deal and David Lovering – Doolittle was to prove a pivotal moment for both band and the wider scene. Produced by Gil Norton and recorded between two studios (Downtown Recorders in Boston MA and Carriage House Studios in Stamford CT) in late-1988, it was an instant hit, containing some of the band’s most memorable singles (‘Monkey Gone To Heaven’, ‘Here Comes Your Man’, ‘Debaser’). Included among the many plaudits thrown Doolittle’s way was Pitchfork ranking it at Number 4 in their Best Albums of the 80s poll, while NME writers in 2004 named it their Second Best Album of All Time. The band toured Doolittle in 2009 to celebrate its 20th birthday and five years on, it’s now time to give it the deluxe release treatment it deserves.

jeremy neale

Last time we saw Jeremy he was living his 60s revivalist dreams but that was a year ago, man. Times have changed and he’s changed with them. Or maybe he’s changed and it’s time for the times to change with him.

Since the November 2013 release of his debut EP In Stranger Times, Jeremy has taken touring to the max. He teamed up with The John Steel Singers to take the EP on a victory lap in February before heading over to the UK to play Liverpool Sound City and The Great Escape. He also visited Singapore for the Music Matters festival and most recently toured with the Blurst Of Times Festival in October. Between all this he also recorded, released and toured an album with Brisbane garage collective Velociraptor and released a 7” with melodic surf band Teen Sensations.

During this time he learnt a lot about life, about love, about priorities and his own dreams and probably along the way some stuff about songwriting, which brings us to The News. Recorded with Sydney producer Tony Buchen at Studios 301, mastered by Leon Zervos and featuring the backing vocal talent of Roxane LeBrasse, The News walks into territory Jeremy has always been comfortable writing but couldn’t find the space to release until now. A synth heavy journey through those wonderful moments in life when somebody you love says “We need to talk” and then proceeds to drop the most devastating news of all time.

Never fear though, despite the emotional pain it’s still incredibly danceable. Plus, check the fill at 2:58. Phil Collins is a proud father to Lily Collins and now this drum break. So Against All Odds this Father’s Day could be the best one yet so put your hands In The Air Tonight and whatever you do, Don’t Lose My Number if Something Happens On The Way To Heaven…Hmm.

Note: Jeremy Neale ain’t afraid of no tour. See you in February, Australia!

The News will be available to purchase digitally from
Friday 5 December via Dot Dash/Remote Control Records
