money-go-round

“I can’t wait to share this track with everyone.” Chuck Grins, “It’s a real nice slice of Indie Psych Pop bliss, swirling with twangy guitar & dominant drums and you know they love what they do! Huge thanks to The A&R Department for supporting the show with this exclusive track.

Mogwai, who should require no introduction here, have been tearing up venues across the country and Chuck has been lucky enough to secure an interview with them before they blow the stage in Brisbane at the Tivoli. “Mogwai are the greatest Post Rock band in the world. Period. No more needs to be said on that one.”

Indie Nuggetts will cover a vast range of sub genres within the scope of Indie music, from Indie Rock, Pop, Folk, Electro and all stops in between. The show will feature a ‘Gold Nuggett’ CD each week with 70% of the music coming from the last 4 months and 50% True Blue Aussie content!

“Indie music is one of the biggest, fastest growing and expanding genres with a very long shelf life.” Chuck declares across the desk, “It’s that vibrancy, that ever changing landscape of Indie music that I want to bring to the ears of the Manning. Indie artists can be found in almost all genres of music, so the show might just contain something for everyone.”

Playlists are posted to 2BOB’s website as Chuck goes to air and posted to his facebook page as well (https://www.facebook.com/ChuckNuggetts) , keeping listeners up to date with everything Indie.

Live Australian Music Crusaders! SLAM!

SLAM (Save Live Australia’s Music) Five Years On, Stronger.

This story is from Melbourne, but hopefully this can become the template for more “Live Music Friendly” changes to Local and State Government regulations nationwide.
Hopefully the way some people view the Arts will change as well with the revelation that in Victoria, more people go to see live small music gigs than go to AFL games!

SLAM
In early 2010 Melbourne’s live music scene had a fight on its hands. Recently introduced liquor licensing regulations, equating live music with alcohol-fuelled violence, were adversely affecting music venues and musicians were losing opportunities to play. We were in crisis.
A dedicated group of musicians, industry workers, and skilled music fans, led by Helen Marcou and Quincy McLean from Bakehouse Studios, decided to do something about it.

SLAM (Save Live Australia’s Music) was born.

On February 23rd 2010, Melburnians showed just how far they would go to fight for their beloved live music community. 20,000 passionate music fans hit the streets, marching through the centre of the city to the steps of the Victorian Parliament to the unmistakeable sounds of AC/DC’s ‘Long Way To The Top’. It was a prescient soundtrack.

SLAM’s aims were clear. The erroneous link between live music and alcohol-fuelled violence must be repealed, a Live Music Accord between Government and industry must be agreed upon, a Live Music Roundtable be set up, and the Agent of Change principal be adopted into the Planning and Building Codes to help protect live music venues.

Five years later, through the sheer hard work and dedication of SLAM and its many volunteers, ALL of those key demands have finally been met when the planning laws changed in late 2014.

In Victoria:
– Law change! The recognition of live music in the objects of the Liquor Licensing Act in Victoria.
– Law change! The Agent of Change Principle was introduced into Planning Policy and the Building Code was changed not to prejudice small live music venues.

– The first ever report into the ‘Social, Cultural & Economic Value of Live Music’ (Deloitte Access Economics) was commissioned (contemporary music was finally quantified as an industry and it was found that more people attend small gigs than AFL home and away games.)
– A peak body, Music Victoria, was formed and funded
– A Live Music Roundtable between Government and industry was set up
– EPA and noise emissions are being reviewed after a 30 year gap

The movement spread! SLAM supporters also got on board with national grassroots music campaigns from 2011.

Nationally:
– National SLAM day events over 2 years with 300+ small venues participating
– Law change! We lobbied for and were successful in the passing (unopposed) the S.A. government’s Small Bars Act which has laid ground for the revitalisation of S.A.’s grassroots live music scene.
– Helped secure additional funding of $500k for the National Live Music Office from the Rudd Government.
– We have been active in live music campaigns all around the country, and advocated and contributed to new live music strategies in Sydney, Marrickville, Wollongong, Leichhardt, Port Phillip & Yarra.

The Australian live music sector now has a strong political voice. Thank you to SLAM volunteers all around the country that helped us find it!

COURTNEY BARNETT ANNOUNCES DEBUT ALBUM

COURTNEY BARNETT ANNOUNCES DEBUT ALBUM
courtney barnett

After having what can only be described as a truly amazing breakthrough year in 2014, Melbourne’s Courtney Barnett is today incredibly excited to announce details for the release of her highly-anticipated debut album entitled Sometimes I Sit And Think, And Sometimes I Just Sit. The first single to be lifted from the album is ‘Pedestrian At Best’ which received its worldwide radio premiere via Zane Lowe on BBC1 this morning.
CLICK TO LISTEN TO ‘PEDESTRIAN AT BEST’
Sometimes I Sit And Think, And Sometimes I Just Sit will be released in Australia on Friday 20th March 2015 via Milk! Records / Remote Control Records. Recorded in the autumn of 2014 in an intense 10 day session at Head Gap studios in Melbourne, the album finally brings Barnett’s pithily acute and stingingly incisive vision into stark, unflinching focus, her wit sharpened to a knife edge, her melodies more infectious and addictive than ever.

Following up from the critically lauded The Double EP: A Sea of Split Peas in 2013 (which, as the title suggests, collected her first two self-released EPs to beguiling effect), her debut LP cements Barnett’s standing as one of the most distinctive voices in indie rock, mixing witty, often hilarious observations with devastating self-assessment over a beguiling collection of songs that reveals her as an ambitious songwriter with an ear for clever turns of phrase and an eye for story-song details that are literate without being pretentious.

On first single, ‘Pedestrian At Best‘, Barnett turns the microscope’s glare on herself, as she lets loose an internal monologue crammed with twisting rhymes, inside jokes and self-deprecation while she muses on the fleeting nature of fame and what may or may not come after (“I must confess I’ve made a mess of what should be a small success, but I digress. At least I tried my very best… I guess”).

Sometimes I Sit And Think, And Sometimes I Just Sit is available for pre-order today on Deluxe White Double Gatefold Vinyl, Single LP Regular Black Vinyl and CD via www.courtneybarnett.com.au.

Courtney Barnett is currently touring Australia as a part of the St Jerome’s Laneway Festival.

HOUNDMOUTH Announce new album Little Neon Limelight

HOUNDMOUTH Announce new album Little Neon Limelight
houndmouth

After being picked by Spotify as one of the top bands poised for breakout in 2015, New Albany’s Houndmouth have confirmed the release of Little Neon Limelight via Rough Trade / Remote Control on Friday 13th March.

The album is the follow-up to their “near perfect” (NPR Music) debut album, which saw them perform on Letterman, Conan, CBS This Morning, and tour with The Alabama Shakes, The Lumineers and more. Little Neon Limelight was recorded in Nashville with producer Dave Cobb (Sturgill Simpson).  The band have premiered the music video for their new song ‘Sedona’ filmed near Joshua Tree and directed by Naomi Yang (Neutral Milk Hotel).

The 11 new, original songs on Little Neon Limelight are the band’s best to date, blending their signature four-part harmonies with the gritty foot-stomping rock swagger of their live shows and a loose confidence in the studio.

“I’ve grown up a lot since our first record,” reflects frontman Matt Myers (guitar / vocals), adding, “the inspiration falls close to the struggle of figuring out exactly what it means to be a man, let alone an artist.”

Highlights of Little Neon Limelight include the live fan-favorites ‘By God,’ ‘My Cousin Greg,’ and ‘Say It,’ and the acoustic track ‘For No One,’ which recently premiered on NPR Music, and is unlike anything else Houndmouth have ever recorded. NPR’s Ann Powers called ‘For No One’ an “epic ballad, stuffed full of vivid imagery.”

Check Out the New single Sedona, Here.

Houndmouth – Little Neon Limelight is available to pre order digitally now via Rough Trade / Remote Control.

Purity Ring Announce New Album another eternity

Purity Ring Announce New Album Another Eternity Released 2nd March Through 4AD

purity ring

Canadian duo Megan James and Corin Roddick, the brains behind Purity Ring, will return with a second album, entitled another eternity, in the week commencing 2nd March.

They’ve also premiered new track ‘begin again’, which you can check out below, and stream on all digital services.

Whereas the band’s debut album Shrines was composed remotely between Halifax and Montreal, another eternity marks the first time Megan and Corin were able to create a record in the same room. The pair ventured home to the frozen industrial landscapes of their birthplace Edmonton, Alberta to document much of what became the album. Megan and Corin recorded and produced their follow-up themselves, as always.

New Release by Bass Drum Of Death – Rip This

Bass Drum Of Death “Rip This” released Friday, October 10 via Create/Control | Innovative Leisure.

In the past, BDoD brainchild John Barrett wrote and recorded all the material and toured with a revolving lineup of hired guns on drums and guitar. This time around, drummer Len Clark joins Barrett as a full-time member and collaborator. The duo began discussing plans for a new record when touring with Unknown Mortal Orchestra in 2013. Barrett and Clark then convinced UMO bassist Jacob Portrait to take on the role of producer when the band booked a session in March at Prairie Sun Studios in Sonoma County, California. With a few rough demos, Barrett, Clark, and Portrait hunkered down for two weeks and cranked out the band’s first proper studio album. Rip This retains BDoD’s trademark sorry-for-partyin’ swagger while scrapping the crackling hiss and lo-fi fuzz. The result is a record that still relies on an obliterating attack of heavy guitars, danceable hooks, and kinetic drumming, but will appeal as much to KISS fans as the music freaks and geeks who worship Nuggets. Both a challenge to music critics and a rock call-to-arms, the title says it all. You’re not going to hear many records this year that rip like this, so shotgun a beer, tune in, and turn up.

Tracks:
1. Electric
2. Left For Dead
3. For Blood
4. Everything’s The Same
5. Sin Is In 10
6. Black Don’t Glow
7. Burn’s My Eye
8. Lose My Mind
9. Better Days
10. Route 69 (Yeah)

Islands follows the band’s EPs Without/Within and Agape and their hugely acclaimed recent single Elysium. The album was produced by Ian Grimble (Manic Street Preachers/The 1975) at 2KHz Studio in North London.
